What is raised loft boarding?

Laying boards straight onto the joists compresses the insulation to the joist depth, which can halve its value, and can trap moisture under the boards. Loft legs screw to the joists and carry the boards at the right height. More about raised loft boarding.

Questions about raised loft boarding in Ystradgynlais

Is loft work in Ystradgynlais different from anywhere else?

The method is the same, but older terraces, cottages and newer estates each have their own quirks: lath ceilings, low pitches or trussed roofs. We plan for the loft we find.

Do you charge extra to travel to Ystradgynlais?

Not normally. Our guide prices include normal travel to Ystradgynlais. If an address needs a ferry or an unusually long journey, we tell you the cost before you book.

Can you visit Ystradgynlais outside working hours?

Ask about early, late or weekend appointments when you get in touch, and we will tell you honestly what we can offer.

Is loft boarding included in VAT relief?

No. Boarding is not an energy-saving material, so it is standard-rated if VAT applies, while the insulation underneath can be zero-rated.

How much weight can a boarded loft take?

Ordinary household storage such as boxes and cases is fine on most lofts. Heavy items need the joists assessing. Trussed roofs are lighter than traditional cut roofs.
