What is loft insulation?
We lay the first layer to the depth of the joists, usually 100 mm, so it fills each bay edge to edge with no gaps. The second layer goes across the joists at right angles, which covers the timber and stops it acting as a cold bridge. More about loft insulation.
- Eaves kept clear, with ventilation trays where air could be blocked
- Mineral wool to 270 to 300 mm across the whole loft floor
- Cables lifted clear of the insulation where possible
Why book with us in Wiltshire
Photos of the finished loft
You see the work done without climbing the ladder.
We measure before we quote
Existing depth, joist spacing, wiring and the tank are checked, not guessed.
Boarding done properly
Storage boards go on loft legs, never straight onto the insulation.
Tank and pipes protected
Every insulation job includes a tank jacket and pipe lagging, so nothing freezes in a colder loft.
How much does loft insulation cost in Wiltshire?
Installing insulation in a home is zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027 and 5% after that, under HMRC's rules for energy-saving materials (notice 708/6). The Energy Saving Trust puts a typical professionally installed loft at about £750 from bare joists, or £600 to top up from 120 mm.
Building regulations in England
In England, a loft insulated across more than half its area should reach a U-value of 0.16 W/m²K. Insulation alone is not usually notified to building control. How the rules work across the UK.
Funding in England
- ECO4, the energy supplier scheme, runs until 31 December 2026 for eligible households, with no supplier scheme to follow it.
- The Great British Insulation Scheme closed on 31 March 2026.
- The Warm Homes Plan, announced in January 2026, funds upgrades for low-income households, including through councils under Warm Homes: Local Grant.

Questions about loft insulation in Wiltshire
Do you cover the whole of Wiltshire?
Yes. We cover every town and village in Wiltshire, including Swindon, Salisbury and Trowbridge (Wiltshire).
Are your prices the same across Wiltshire?
Yes. Our guide prices are the same everywhere we work, and they include normal travel. Your fixed price depends on your loft, not your postcode.
Does loft insulation need building control approval?
On its own it usually does not, but the work still has to meet the energy standard. The rules differ across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, so we confirm the position for your address on the quote.
How deep should loft insulation be?
The Energy Saving Trust recommends at least 270 mm of mineral wool, and that is the depth we install as standard. Building regulations also set an energy standard for the roof when a loft is insulated. It differs between England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, so we confirm the target for your address on the quote.
