What is loft insulation?
We lay the first layer to the depth of the joists, usually 100 mm, so it fills each bay edge to edge with no gaps. The finished depth sits at 270 mm or more, the depth the Energy Saving Trust recommends. More about loft insulation.
- Eaves kept clear, with ventilation trays where air could be blocked
- Waste packaging removed
- Cables lifted clear of the insulation where possible
Why book with us in County Antrim
Boarding done properly
Storage boards go on loft legs, never straight onto the insulation.
Plain-English advice
We explain what we find in plain English, and say so when nothing needs doing.
Downlights made safe
Fire-rated covers or a clear zone around recessed lights.
Eaves kept clear
Insulation is held back from the eaves so the loft can still ventilate.
How much does loft insulation cost in County Antrim?
Installing insulation in a home is zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027 and 5% after that, under HMRC's rules for energy-saving materials (notice 708/6). The Energy Saving Trust puts a typical professionally installed loft in Northern Ireland at about £1,100 from bare joists, or £700 to top up from 120 mm.
Building regulations in Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland has its own Building Regulations, with energy guidance in Technical Booklet F1. Upgrading loft insulation may count as a thermal alteration, so check with your council's building control. How the rules work across the UK.
Funding in Northern Ireland
- The Affordable Warmth Scheme, delivered by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, helps owner-occupiers and private tenants with a household income under £23,000. Apply through the Northern Ireland Energy Advice Service and check it is open.
- The Northern Ireland Sustainable Energy Programme (NISEP) funds energy efficiency measures for eligible households.
- ECO and the Warm Homes Plan do not apply in Northern Ireland.
Questions about loft insulation in County Antrim
Do you cover the whole of County Antrim?
Yes. We cover every town and village in County Antrim, including Belfast, Lisburn and Newtownabbey.
Are your prices the same across County Antrim?
Yes. Our guide prices are the same everywhere we work, and they include normal travel. Your fixed price depends on your loft, not your postcode.
How long does it take to insulate a loft?
Most lofts in houses take a single day. A large bungalow loft, a loft that needs clearing first or one with awkward access can run into a second day.
Will loft insulation make my loft colder?
Yes, and that is expected. The insulation keeps the heat in the rooms below, so the loft above runs closer to the outdoor temperature. That is why pipes and the tank are lagged as part of the job.
