What is raised loft boarding?
Laying boards straight onto the joists compresses the insulation to the joist depth, which can halve its value, and can trap moisture under the boards. Loft legs screw to the joists and carry the boards at the right height. More about raised loft boarding.
- Loft legs fixed to the joists
- Moisture-resistant chipboard or OSB boards
- Full-depth insulation under the boarded area
Why book with us in Galashiels
We measure before we quote
Existing depth, joist spacing, wiring and the tank are checked, not guessed.
No pressure selling
You get everything in writing and decide in your own time.
Fixed written price
The price on the quote is the price you pay. It only changes if you change the job, or if we find something hidden, such as rot, and you agree the change in writing first.
Boarding done properly
Storage boards go on loft legs, never straight onto the insulation.
How much does raised loft boarding cost in Galashiels?
This work is not an energy-saving material for VAT, so it is standard-rated if VAT applies. Where it is done alongside insulation, the quote shows each part separately.
Building standards in Scotland
In Scotland, insulating an existing loft does not normally need a building warrant, but the building standards still apply. How the rules work across the UK.
Questions about raised loft boarding in Galashiels
Do you cover all of TD1?
Yes, we cover the TD1 postcode district and the districts around Galashiels.
Do you charge extra to travel to Galashiels?
Not normally. Our guide prices include normal travel to Galashiels. If an address needs a ferry or an unusually long journey, we tell you the cost before you book.
Will I get a written quote for work in Galashiels?
Yes. Every quote is in writing with the work, the price and what is included, so you can compare it properly.
Is loft boarding included in VAT relief?
No. Boarding is not an energy-saving material, so it is standard-rated if VAT applies, while the insulation underneath can be zero-rated.
Can you board the whole loft?
We can, but we usually advise boarding only what you need. Every boarded area costs more and makes later checks under the floor harder.
