What is raised loft boarding?
Laying boards straight onto the joists compresses the insulation to the joist depth, which can halve its value, and can trap moisture under the boards. We board the area you need, usually around the hatch, and leave the rest of the loft at full depth. More about raised loft boarding.
- Moisture-resistant chipboard or OSB boards
- Full-depth insulation under the boarded area
- Loft legs fixed to the joists
Why book with us in Welwyn Garden City
Plain-English advice
We explain what we find in plain English, and say so when nothing needs doing.
Tidy work
Dust sheets on the route in and every bit of packaging taken away.
Fixed written price
The price on the quote is the price you pay. It only changes if you change the job, or if we find something hidden, such as rot, and you agree the change in writing first.
Photos of the finished loft
You see the work done without climbing the ladder.
How much does raised loft boarding cost in Welwyn Garden City?
This work is not an energy-saving material for VAT, so it is standard-rated if VAT applies. Where it is done alongside insulation, the quote shows each part separately.
Building regulations in England
In England, a loft insulated across more than half its area should reach a U-value of 0.16 W/m²K. Insulation alone is not usually notified to building control. How the rules work across the UK.
Questions about raised loft boarding in Welwyn Garden City
Will I get a written quote for work in Welwyn Garden City?
Yes. Every quote is in writing with the work, the price and what is included, so you can compare it properly.
Do you cover all of AL8?
Yes, we cover the AL8 postcode district and the districts around Welwyn Garden City.
Do you take on jobs outside Welwyn Garden City?
Yes. We also work in Hatfield and Hertford and elsewhere in Hertfordshire.
How much weight can a boarded loft take?
Ordinary household storage such as boxes and cases is fine on most lofts. Heavy items need the joists assessing. Trussed roofs are lighter than traditional cut roofs.
Can you board the whole loft?
We can, but we usually advise boarding only what you need. Every boarded area costs more and makes later checks under the floor harder.
