What is raised loft boarding?
Laying boards straight onto the joists compresses the insulation to the joist depth, which can halve its value, and can trap moisture under the boards. We board the area you need, usually around the hatch, and leave the rest of the loft at full depth. More about raised loft boarding.
- Loft legs fixed to the joists
- Moisture-resistant chipboard or OSB boards
- Full-depth insulation under the boarded area
Why book with us in Sale
Plain-English advice
We explain what we find in plain English, and say so when nothing needs doing.
Boarding done properly
Storage boards go on loft legs, never straight onto the insulation.
Tidy work
Dust sheets on the route in and every bit of packaging taken away.
Photos of the finished loft
You see the work done without climbing the ladder.
How much does raised loft boarding cost in Sale?
This work is not an energy-saving material for VAT, so it is standard-rated if VAT applies. Where it is done alongside insulation, the quote shows each part separately.
Building regulations in England
In England, a loft insulated across more than half its area should reach a U-value of 0.16 W/m²K. Insulation alone is not usually notified to building control. How the rules work across the UK.
Questions about raised loft boarding in Sale
Do you take on jobs outside Sale?
Yes. We also work in Stretford and Urmston and elsewhere in Greater Manchester.
What do I need to do before you arrive in Sale?
Clear a path to the hatch and, if you can, move stored items away from the area we will be working in. Tell us about anything heavy or fragile.
Do you charge extra to travel to Sale?
Not normally. Our guide prices include normal travel to Sale. If an address needs a ferry or an unusually long journey, we tell you the cost before you book.
How much weight can a boarded loft take?
Ordinary household storage such as boxes and cases is fine on most lofts. Heavy items need the joists assessing. Trussed roofs are lighter than traditional cut roofs.
Is loft boarding included in VAT relief?
No. Boarding is not an energy-saving material, so it is standard-rated if VAT applies, while the insulation underneath can be zero-rated.
