Can loft insulation cover electrical cables?
Cables buried in insulation run warmer, which can reduce how much current they can safely carry. Where possible, cables are lifted and laid on top of the insulation. Heavily loaded circuits, such as electric shower and cooker cables, should be checked by an electrician.
Can you insulate over downlights?
Not directly. Recessed downlights need either a clear space around them or a fire-rated cover designed to sit under insulation. LED fittings run cooler but still need the right cover.
What about old wiring?
Old rubber or lead-sheathed cables found in a loft should be inspected by a registered electrician before insulating. We will point them out at the survey.
